The idea
A Spotify Family plan costs $33.99 a month and covers up to 6 people. Most of them are never full. Someone is paying for 6 seats and using two.
If you have flatmates who all want the same service, you don't need us. Put one name on the plan and settle up between yourselves. KiwiSubs is for the other case: you want the plan and you don't have a group, or you have the plan and the spare seats are going to waste.
Joining a plan
1. Find a plan with a free seat.
Every listing shows the price, how many seats are left, and whether the host has verified their identity. You can browse what's open without an account.
2. Pay your share.
$8.99 a month, charged in full on the day you join and monthly after that. That is roughly $144 a year less than paying $20.99 for Premium on your own. Card details go straight to Stripe and never touch us.
3. Accept the invite.
The host's invite link appears in your dashboard as soon as the payment clears. You open it, accept from the service itself, and you have access. Nobody shares a password at any point.
One thing worth knowing before you join: if you already pay for Premium yourself, cancel it with Spotify first. Your existing subscription runs to the end of the period you have already paid for, so joining before then means paying twice for the same month.
Hosting a plan
1. List your spare seats.
Listing is free and takes a couple of minutes. You add your plan, how many seats you want to share, and the invite link people will use to join.
2. Verify your identity.
A short Stripe form covering who you are and where your payouts go. You need it before any money can reach you, and it puts the verified badges on your listing, which is most of what makes a stranger comfortable joining.
3. Earn every month.
$5.67 per filled seat, per month. Fill all 5 spare seats on a $33.99 plan and you get $28.35 a month back, which covers most of what the plan costs you.
Hosts can't set their own price or mark a seat up. Everyone earns exactly one seat's share of what the plan costs, which is what keeps hosting a way to recover costs rather than a way to resell a subscription. Money in and money out
Joiners are charged monthly by Stripe. Host earnings build up in a balance you can see on your dashboard, and are paid out to your bank once that balance reaches $20. At $5.67 a seat, a host sharing 5 seats reaches that in the second month.
KiwiSubs adds its own fee on top of the host's share. That covers card processing, refunds and running the site.
You can cancel from your dashboard at any time. There is no minimum term and no cancellation fee.
What keeps it safe
Hosts verify their identity through Stripe before they can be paid, so the person you're joining is a real identifiable individual rather than an anonymous account. Payments run through Stripe throughout, so your card details are never stored by us.
Only plans genuinely built for several people can be listed. No single-user subscriptions, no free trials, and members are always added through the service's own invite system rather than by handing round a password.
KiwiSubs is New Zealand only, deliberately. Family plans are meant for people in the same country, and sharing across borders is the thing that actually gets accounts shut down.
